Consideration of Society in Choosing Component Type of Mixture Garden Agroforestry in Tondon Nanggala, Kabupaten Tana Toraja

Abstract

This research was aimed to know the agroforestry system form, structure, composition and biodiversity and consideration in choosing component type of agroforestry system. This research had been conducted in Maret up to Juny 2011 in Tondon Naggala Subsdistrict, Tana Toraja Regency.

The results of the research showed that the form of agroforestry system that is developed by society is agrisilviculture and agrosilvopasture with cultivating pattern in irregular. Amount of species and variety of type were different in the different altitude and in the altitude of 900-1,000 m MSL had highest amount of species and biodiversity. Vertical structure and composing species showed that there is a similarity of the three different altitudes those are uru, buanging, sengon, suren, durian, mahoni in stratum A; sugar palm, Coral tree  (dadap), clove plant, jackfruit, jati putih tree in stratum B; coffee, cocoa, vanilla in stratum C; cassava, yam, taro, tomato and ginger family in the lowest stratum. The used main consideration by society in selecting type were economical factor (for sale and self consumption) but it also consider ecological factor/silviculture (easy for cultivating and maintaining as shelter trees), and social culture (for building material of house and handicraft, and the family influence).
